Regional Youth Ministry is a resource for churches in their ministry with youth. Training events and youth leader groups bring youth pastors and leaders together to be equipped for effective youth ministry. Several events throughout the year bring youth together to be equipped for discipleship and leadership, fellowship, spiritual enrichment, so that that people will come into a deeper relationship with Christ and one another.
Our vision is that lives will be transformed through the ministry we offer. It is often in the context of these events and programs that youth have a life changing encounter with Christ that transforms their lives and propels them into adulthood with a solid foundation of faith. When youth come together with youth from other churches and ethnic groups it expands and enriches their view of the world, Christian life, mission and the body of Christ.
These are the resources we offer our ABCOFLASH Churches:
brings youth together from churches in our region for discipleship and leadership training. In iLead we are partnering with local churches in developing young leaders who will serve in their churches. In the 5 retreats we focus on five areas of formation: Life, Leadership, Spiritual, Missional, and Theological. The next iLead group will begin in October of 2017.
The Winter Youth Retreat is attended by over 200 youth every winter. Our goal is provide a “spiritual marker” event that builds the community within youth groups and among youth from different churches. We have dynamic worship and a speaker that connects with young people – many make first time commitments to Christ and recommitments to following Christ.
Next Winter Youth Retreat – February 18-20, 2017 (President's Day Weekend) at Camp Cedar Crest. Make plans to attend now! Click here for more details on the upcoming WYR!
American Baptist Day at Magic Mountain – This event builds community within youth groups as they spend the entire day together – many great things can happen as a result of spending lots of time together.
Our last Magic Mountain Day was on June 13, 2015.
Equipping Youth Leaders for Ministry – A youth pastors group meets once a month to connect with each other around our common youth ministry. Youth and Young Adult Ministry leaders training sessions will be held once a month in different locations around our region beginning in the Fall of 2015.
We also provide a reduced rate for youth ministry leaders to attend the Urban Youth Workers Institute National http://uywi.org/ Conference. This is one of the best training events in the nation for those who serve youth in the urban context. The next conference will be taking place at Azusa Pacific University, May 18-21, 2016.
The Region also sponsors EQUIP– an event that offers training for ministry leaders in all areas of church ministry, including youth and young adult ministry. There will also be a workshop at the Annual Meeting in October of 2015 focused on ministering to the young generation. Equip 2016 will take place in March of 2016.
We are in touch with other training events for youth and young adult ministry and let leaders in our region know what training events are available to help strengthen local church ministry.
Mission Trips - Our region has sponsored Mission experiences for youth in our churches. In past years we have taken groups on Mission Trips to Mexico and we have offered Serve the City in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Plans are underway for some mission experiences in 2016.
National and World Conferences - Once about every 4 years American Baptists offer a National Youth Conference. We have taken a group to every National Conference since 1990. The last National Youth Conference was in Washington D.C. in 2012 Every 5 years the Baptist World Alliance has a World Youth Conference. We have taken groups to Zimbabwe, Houston, Hong Kong, Germany and Singapore and offered a mission encounter in addition to attending the conference. The next World Conference will most likely take place in 2020.
