Event Information

This is a ministry of love to women and their children whose homes have become places of violence and risk, providing safe shelter where new ways of living can be learned and promoting through workshops and resources a culture of peace in the family; encouraging, protecting and restoring physical, mental and spiritual health through churches and communities of Baja California. Vocational preparation is included during their stay, such as sewing classes, graphic design, and micro-enterprise.

The name and logo come from Judges 4:4-5.

Just south of the US border in Tijuana, Mexico is a haven for abused women and children. It's called "Deborah's House." Lives are changed there by God's grace, mercy and a sense of healing through the sacrifice of many.

The women of the "Dios Con Nosotros" Baptist Convention of Northern Baja California, Mexico, began Deborah's House, a ministry to victims of domestic violence. Deborah's House brings together a diverse mix of services, including crisis intervention, healthcare, shelter for victims, counseling and education for both victims and abusers in these situations. Deborah's House also offers workshops to all churches in the region on alternatives to violence, self-esteem, relationship skills, and communication.

The "house" is named after Deborah in the Old Testament book of Judges. Deborah prophesied and led her nation from her seated place under a date palm which is symbolic of Israel's strength.
As judge, Deborah brought a feminine sensibility to a male dominated office. She referred to herself as a "Mother to Israel" and her commitment to nurturing fit this title. Deborah's leadership style was selfless, focusing on the people rather than on herself. This, together with her appreciation and knowledge of Torah and her prophetic gift, marked her for national rejuvenation. Deborah embraced and utilized the full extent of a woman's power for positive change. As wife, judge, prophetess and mother, and in the role of commander-in-chief, she was indeed 'a Mother to Israel.'
